How to make your reader feel understood

“How do YOU make your readers feel understood?”

I asked this(stupid) question from a 9-fig copywriter on Twitter.

The answer I got… wasn’t the one I was suspecting to get.

But it gave me a lot of clarity on the subject.

So basically making someone feel understood is BS, unless…

You REALLY understand them.

Which I doubt you do because you only did research.

You haven’t lived through the life they lived through.

And trying to make them feel understood while you don’t actually understand them…

Is just mirroring - pretending.

Pretending is not true understanding. And will never be.

If they catch onto it - you are done.

So if pretending is out of the question, what’s next? Well…

1. Actually feeling what they are feeling (research isn’t enough for this one)

2. Admit that you don’t understand their situation. But help them get through it.

But before you do, there is one more thing to cover:

Relatability.

Because whatever happens…

As humans, we still share common experiences which you can relate to.

And make your readers feel understood even tho you don’t actually understand their exact situation.

I know this might be a bit too much to cover here.

And that’s exactly why you should go over to Merc’s post and read it.

He covers it in way more detail than I do.

And he even gives some examples too.

Get ready to get your mind blown.

‘Till next time
