- They ripped off everyone!?
They ripped off everyone!?
In the past couple of weeks I have been reading and listening to a lot of content featuring the “big dogs” in the industry…
The Gary Halberts, John Carltons, Jim Camps, Doberman Dans, Ken McCarthys, and on and on.
Most people would think these guys were some geniuses who had a breakthrough idea every hour of the day... Which I don’t want to say they didn’t…
But if you consume a lot of their content there will be a recurring character:
They all say they were scarce on original ideas.
But then they learn faster than anybody else... write more unique content than anybody else... and produce groundbreaking sales ideas... with speed that's incomprehensible to most people.
And never ever bitch about not having any ideas on what to learn or write about…
Yet, that’s what most people do.
We bitch about not learning fast enough because we don’t have enough “tactics” to learn, yada yada.
But the big dogs never seem to have a “lack” of ideas. So how can they claim they have a low running faucet of original ideas? I mean, they must have some magic idea we don’t have…
And they do… This:
They use, abuse, apply and repurpose other people's ideas.
Of course ripping something off word for word isn't what I’m trying to say here. No one who is successful got there by doing that.
But they all - and they will admit it too - used other people's ideas in one way or another to learn faster, create products faster, write sales letters faster…
And let’s take learning…
I mean how much smoother would our learning curve be in ANY area of life only if we accepted other people's ideas, advice and lessons. And applied them as if they were our own - never claiming they were our ideas.
You see what I mean here?
We miss out on so much learning and creative potential just because we are indifferent to other people's ideas and advice.
Now... Before I finish, a quote from Stan Billue who was a start salesman:
“...You know, I always say that throughout my life I had 3 original ideas that were my own. And… I’m not even sure about 2 of them…”
So here’s the bottom line:
NEVER steal, rip off or violate other people’s ideas.
But always - always! - try to learn and think about how you could use other people's ideas, advice, and lessons.
Don’t try to figure everything out by yourself.
That’s what most people do and that’s why they are slow.
