How to turn your ugly negatives into sexy positives

I rarely watch TV.

Yet yesterday I watched a TV show called “Stars in Stras” - no pun intended…

The name is a bit misleading…

But I promise it isn’t what you think it is.

Basically, it’s about wannabe singers imitating real singers/stars and performing their songs to the best of their ability.

It’s not a bad show. There are some good singers and great voices.

But also there are some people whose voice sounds like scratching a chalkboard with your nails- just like we did it in 5th grade.

But that’s not my point…

There are 4 mentors. 2 women, 2 men.

3 of them are singers and 1 of them is a rapper.

When they liked the performance of one of the artists,  naturally all of the mentors wanted that artist as their mentee.

And as I was watching the show one of these moments rolled around.

The guy performed really well, but he had a “flaw”.

He sang really well but his confidence and his so-called “presentation” was a bit off.

Every single one of the mentors wanted this guy because of his voice.

They went crazy over him.

Literally got into an argument.

And as the argument settled, and the rapper got word, he said this:

===

Look at these guys… They can teach you how to sing better.

I can’t do that, I can’t teach you how to sing better. I’m not a singer.

But I can teach you how to move better on the stage and how to up your presentation.

Because that’s what I do, while singers improve their voices, I try to improve my dance moves and stage confidence.

===

Since the mentors couldn’t decide on who should mentor the guy. He got a chance to choose where he wants to go.

What do you think, what was his choice?

Did he choose one of the 3 singers?

Or maybe he chose the rapper?

Well…

He chose the rapper.

And there was a very specific persuasion principle that the rapper used to get this guy as his mentee.

Of course, he gave him what he wanted…

But he did this by making the skeleton dance.

He took his disadvantage - not having the greatest voice and not being able to teach the buy how to sing better - and made it into an advantage.

He didn’t try to hide it and pretend like he was a great singer.

That would have served no purpose.

He was smart about it and bragged about his so-called “flaw”. He made it into a reason to choose him.

And this is something you can do too.

Just stop trying to hide your flaws or “skeletons” from clients, girls, or bosses, and start bragging about them. Turn them into reasons that make you better than everyone else.

You can do that with the products you are selling too.

Take the negatives of your product, the reasons people wouldn’t buy it, and turn them into reasons to buy.

It’s actually really simple to do.

And is a rock-solid principle.

Give it a try.
